It's Been A Busy First Term in Pre-School!

Building Our Familiar Surroundings 🧱
Caterpillars children have had fun talking about familiar points of interest around where we live. The children talked about the park, Tesco’s , what our homes looked like, the doctors and how some of us go for walks at Cannock Chase. We all decided that we would like to build these places and all worked together to try and recreate what we could see. Well done Caterpillars!

🐜 Finger Gym: Play Dough Ants! 🐜
Little hands, big adventures! Our fun-filled Finger Gym session invites 2-year-olds to squish, roll, pinch and poke play dough to create their very own little ants.
Through playful, hands-on exploration, little ones will develop fine motor skills, strengthen finger muscles, build hand-eye coordination and spark their creativity. A lovely sensory activity full of squishy fun, imagination and mini-beast adventures! 🍃

Bumblebees' Pumpkin Water Play!
Today Bumblebees enjoyed exploring water play with a large pumpkin and pumpkin-shaped sponges. The children had fun squeezing, splashing and dipping the sponges into the water, watching as the water dripped and trickled back into the tray. This sensory activity encouraged curiosity and exploration while helping to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and an understanding of cause and effect. The children explored different textures and practised using their hands to squeeze and release the water.
What a wonderful way to explore autumn through sensory play! 🐝 🍂

Maths – Scales, Heavy & Light
This week our Bumblebees class have been developing their mathematical understanding of weight and measure. Using balance scales, the children explored a collection of natural objects such as conkers, pinecones, leaves and sticks. 🌿🍂
The children made predictions about which objects would be heavier or lighter, then used the scales to test their ideas. They talked about whether the scales were balanced, compared different objects and used mathematical language such as heavy, light, heavier, lighter and equal.
We encouraged the children to explain their thinking and investigate what happens when different natural objects are placed on the scales. ⚖️🐝
Can you find some natural objects at home and compare them? Which is heavier? Which is lighter? Can you make the scales balance?

We would like to share with you some images of Pre-School's wonderful environment. Our topic this term in Me and My community. All rooms are set up to create a warm and welcoming space where the children can explore who they are and the people and places around them. Children will have the opportunities to look at family photographs, explore different homes, role-play community jobs and learn about familiar places.
