Home Learning Letter-Join Pack Coming Home...

Dear Parents and Carers,
✏️ A few minutes of handwriting practice can make a big difference!
We would really appreciate your help in encouraging your child to practise their handwriting at home.

In a world where children increasingly use tablets and computers, handwriting remains an essential skill. Being able to write clearly and fluently allows children to concentrate on what they want to say, rather than having to think carefully about how to form each letter. Developing good handwriting habits also supports confidence and helps children take pride in the work they produce.
At school, we use Letter-join, a whole-school handwriting programme which helps children develop their handwriting progressively from Reception through to Year 6. By the end of Key Stage 2, our aim is for children to be able to maintain fluent, legible joined handwriting, even when writing at speed.

How can you help?
The good news is that handwriting practice doesn't need to take a long time. Just 5 to 10 minutes of regular practice can provide a valuable opportunity for your child to reinforce what they have learned at school.

Try to make it positive and enjoyable. Children could:

• ✏️ practise particular letters or joins;
• 📝 write a shopping list or a note for someone;
• 📖 copy a favourite sentence, joke or poem;
• 🔤 practise spelling words while concentrating on handwriting;
• 🎨 make a card, label a picture or create a poster;
• 💻 use the Letter-join activities available at home.

Our Letter-join subscription allows children to use the programme at home on a PC or tablet. It includes animations demonstrating letter formation and joining, games and activities, and worksheets for handwriting practice. There are also age-appropriate Home Learning Packs from Early Years through to Year 6, combining online activities with opportunities for real handwriting practice.

Next week, all teachers will be sending home a copy of this Home Learning Pack and details of how to log into the programme.

Little and often is the key.

Please encourage your child to take their time and aim for their best handwriting, rather than writing lots. Celebrate improvement and effort. A beautifully formed line of writing is far more valuable than a whole page completed in a rush!
Most importantly, we want children to see themselves as confident and successful writers. Your encouragement at home, alongside the teaching and practice they receive at school, can make a real difference.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Working together, we can help every child develop handwriting that they can be proud of.
Happy handwriting! ✏️

Yours sincerely,
Mrs Preston
