Our New Swimming Pool has Arrived

Year 4, 5 and 6 swimming sessions have started!

Aqualympic have now set up the pop-up swimming pool on the Y5/6 playground.

Who will deliver the swimming sessions?

A qualified swimming teacher (a relevant level 2 Swimming Qualification from a National Governing Body) from Aqualympic with the appropriate lifesaving qualification will be present at all times during timetabled sessions. Aqualympic staff hold their STA Safety Award for Teachers Qualification which covers First Aid. All Aqualympic Staff are Paediatric Qualified. In addition, a member of school staff will be present on poolside. This ensures that the children are comfortable in the water, with a familiar face on poolside should they become upset.

Pool maintenance

Pool Plant Equipment (the heater and filter system) will be housed in a plastic storage shed with a clearly visible no unauthorised access sign to deter any persons from tampering with the equipment. A chemical spill kit will also be stored within the storage shed in the event of a chemical spill.

Chlorine will be topped up in the filter system daily (or as required) by the swimming teacher/trained Pool Plant Staff Member, in line with the COSHH Risk Assessment guidance. The chlorine is automatically dosed by the filtration system. The swimming teacher will have access to appropriate PPE. Chlorine will be stored in a locked box that only the swimming teacher can access and stored according to the requirements.

Any other chemicals required for water safety are stored off site, and brought onto site by a member of Aqualympic to be used in according with the COSHH Risk Assessment. The chemicals are then taken from the school grounds once they have been used.

Water checks will be conducted 4 times per day, between 8.30am – 4.30pm, and recorded on the water testing sheet inside the swimming teachers staff folder. Backwashes are conducted a minimum of once a week. Water checks are conducted in accordance with PWTAG Code of Practice.

Water Temperature range: 28C – 32C.

Teaching Session: 10 children maximum per session

Filter Type: 3200 Gal Sand Filter Pump (Plant items to be stored in secure storage shed)

There are ten pop up changing tents that will be set up in a section of the school hall.
