Today both Foundation Stage classes were working on initial sounds and blending them together to read. They then moved onto sounding out ( segmenting ) simple words and practiced reading their high frequency words.

Phonics is a pre cursor to reading, writing and spelling providing essential foundations on which children will develop crucial literacy skills to carry them throughout life. High quality teaching makes them better readers and writers and helps them to engage in their learning.
