Monday 4 March 2024 World Book Day 2024 & Author Visit at West Hill Dear Parent/Carer,WORLD BOOK DAY takes place on Thursday 7th March and we will be making the most of this special occasion by organizing events in school for the pupils.In the past, it has been a tradition at West Hill to dress up on World Book Day. We are inviting children to come to school dressed as a favourite book character on that morning if they wish. Prizes will be awarded in each year group for the children who impress staff with their enthusiasm when talking about the book character they have chosen. There will not be a parade this year but pupils will see one another’s costumes in Assembly. If your child would like to dress up, don’t forget there are costumes available in the School Shop.The children will receive a book token on Thursday and school is collaborating with Nancy, from the local Bookshop Press, to ensure everyone receives a WBD book.We are thrilled to tell you that there will also be an author visit on Thursday. An Invitation to our “Starbooks” Reading CaféA growing number of studies show that promoting reading can have a major impact on children and their future. Evidence suggests that reading for pleasure leads to increased attainment. Our children love sitting down and sharing a book and so I would like to invite you to join your child at our "Starbooks" Reading Café.The Reading Café will be open from the end of school until 4:15pm on an afternoon allocated to each Year group over the next few weeks. It will take place in our new School Library.Please collect your child from school as normal and make your way to the School Library via the external door off the playground where Staff will be waiting to welcome you.Tea, coffee and water or squash will be available for a small charge to you and your child. Tuesday 30 January 2024 Pre-Schoolers start their New Topic 'Once Upon A Time'. Since returning for the new term, Pre-School have enjoyed exploring their new topic ‘Once upon a time’. This topic supports children to develop a love of stories and reading. It encourages children to learn, retell and act out familiar and traditional tales including Cinderella, Goldilocks, Three Little Pigs, Billy Goats Gruff and many more. The children have been accessing age and stage appropriate activities linked to the topic and have discussed their own knowledge about royalty and traditional tales.
