Reading Schemes & Phonics Information






At West Hill Primary School we use ‘Book Talk’ to teach reading. This is collaborative approach with lasting impact by Jane Considine. The approach ensures a consistent approach to the teaching of reading across the whole school.

We teach phonics from Pre-School to KS1 using ‘Letters and Sounds.’ A copy of which can be downloaded below.

Letters and Sounds Guidance

All classes in Early Years and Key Stage One will receive daily phonics input.

Each phonics session will follow the same structure.

All Year One children take the ‘Phonics Screening Check’ - a statutory assessment required by legislation.
