West Hill Primary School

World Book Day 2024 at West Hill

Dear Parent/Carer,

WORLD BOOK DAY takes place on Thursday 7th March and we will be making the most of this special occasion by organizing events in school for the pupils.

In the past, it has been a tradition at West Hill to dress up on World Book Day. We are inviting children to come to school dressed as a favourite book character on that morning if they wish. Prizes will be awarded in each year group for the children who impress staff with their enthusiasm when talking about the book character they have chosen. There will not be a parade this year but pupils will see one another’s costumes in Assembly. If your child would like to dress up, don’t forget there are costumes available in the School Shop.

The children will receive a book token on Thursday and school is collaborating with Nancy, from the local Bookshop Press, to ensure everyone receives a WBD book.

We are thrilled to tell you that there will also be an author visit on Thursday. We are lucky to have the author of ‘Alien-A little Ones Adventure!’ Lesley Littleton, coming into school to see the Foundation stage and Key Stage One pupils.
There will be competition with the chance to win a signed copy of the book.
Lesley will be available in the hall after school on the 7th March to do an author ‘Meet and Greet’ for parents and children and will be selling signed copies of the book for £6.

Don’t forget the Starbooks Reading Café continues this week in the School Library. To further enhance the Library, we will be launching a Sponsored Read on WBD (supported by Usborne Books) and more information will follow.8

Scholastic Book Fair also arrives in school at the end of next week. Pupils will have the opportunity to browse with their class and the Fair will be available to parents at Parents’ Evenings on 13th and 14th March.

Everyone at West Hill is trying to foster a love of reading for everyone. For ideas on how you can encourage a love of reading for pleasure or for more information visit www.worldbookday.com

Many thanks for your support.

Yours sincerely,

Janice Preston
