Welcome to Year 2!

Our aim in Year 2 is to encourage independent learners to have a thirst for learning! We strive to ensure all of our children develop confidence with core skills in reading, writing and maths but also to embrace the wider curriculum opportunities on offer. We ensure to provide a safe, happy and exciting learning environment in which every child is encouraged to develop their confidence and self-esteem, take risks with learning and achieve their full potential.

We have a packed year with lots to get through, it is split into 6 Projects that are exciting and capture the children’s imagination. For a closer look at what we do, have a look at the curriculum topic overview and curriculum maps.

Homework

All Year 2 children are expected to complete their set homework.

Developing a responsible attitude towards homework in primary school will help your child to become more organised. Please check their homework with them and encourage neat presentation. Good quality homework will always be rewarded.

The homework set will be as follows:

English and Maths
This will be given on a Wednesday. Each piece is designed to consolidate the children’s learning from that week, or to give them the chance to independently apply a skill they’ve been developing. Each piece should take no longer than fifteen minutes
each to complete and is due in on the Monday of the following week.

Reading
The children are expected to read at home at least
three times per week— please record in their reading diary.

Spelling
Each half-term the children will be given a hand-out with
the spelling rules/patterns we will be focusing on during lessons.

Topic-based projects
Each half-term the children will be set an
open-ended homework project based on their topic.

Additional Information

Exciting trips, workshops and visits are planned throughout the year to enhance your child’s learning. Information on our school trips will be sent to parents when necessary.
